Transcription Defined
Medical Transcription under the broad category of customer support is usually done through listening with the recordings made by the physicians and other health care professionals. While listening to the recordings, medical transcriptionist will transcribe the data into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material. They generally listen to recordings on a headset and transfer the information into the computer or word processor and editing as needed for grammar and clarity. All of the information is from the patients including their medical history, laboratories, all the treatments made to patient, operative reports, consultation reports, autopsy reports, diagnostic-imaging studies, progress notes, and referral letters. After all of this, the medical transcriptionist will return back the transcribed documents to the physicians or other health care professionals for review and have it signed. Corrections are if necessary. These documents will eventually become part of patient's permanent files. In order to avoid legal liabilities, medical transcriptionist is required to document the information’s properly.
